The Lion King is a classic Disney movie that many people
have either watched or heard about. The movie has been turned into a Broadway
show and has also been presented on Disney on Ice. The popularity of this film
also brought it back to theaters in 2011 with a special 3D enhancement feature.
Why do so many people love this movie? Between all the
laughs and tears this film can bring to someone, there are many reasons why
people enjoy this film so much. There are relatable characters such as the
young son who can’t wait to grow up like his father or the siblings that are
envious of each other. There are also the two friends that rather not care
about the real issues of the world and just live their lives.
My group and I decided to host a movie night on April first
to show The Lion King. We met in the Tortuga lobby since there are couches and
a big size television. At first, it was very difficult to find a time that each
of the group members had available. Between jobs, school, and personal reasons,
we finally found a day that could work. There was another issue that we
encountered which was finding an HDMI cord to plug the laptop into the TV. Once
we borrowed a cord from a very nice RA, we were set to watch the movie.
After the tears I shed and the laughs I made, we finished
the movie. It was a great movie and we were all glad that we were able to watch
it. It was a good experience to actually discuss the film instead of just
watching a movie and calling it a day. We discussed the characters and had
their conflicts impacted the story line and also how they could have benefited
from taking HCOMM 214. Simba had to face his past to overcome his fears and be
the King that he was meant to be. Scar was finally put into his place and no
longer came back to Pride Rock. Scar was an evil lion that really had no chance
of going back to his old ways, but if he had taken the class prior to his
evilness, he may not have killed his own brother and been a happier person.
After the movie night, we enjoyed a somewhat delicious meal
at the Dining Commons. We enjoyed watching the movie together and spending the
time together to work on this project. We learned to be flexible with our
scheduling and to compromise to choose a movie to watch.
