The characters, Scar, Simba, Timon and Pumbaa from
the classic Disney film, The Lion King, would benefit from taking HCOM 214. These
characters all have internal conflicts and do not handle the conflicts that
they are faced with very well.
Scar would benefit from taking HCOM 214 (although
it would probably be more beneficial at a younger age) by teaching him
effective communication skills to help better talk out issues with his brother.
Scar has a "reach for power" and will do anything to be King. He is
very envious of is brother Mufasa, and he is very angry at the fact that he
will never take the thrown since Mufasa has an heir to the thrown, his son
Simba. Scar killed his own brother, Mufasa, and then led Simba to believe he
caused his dads death. Simba was chased out of Pride Rock by Scars’ hyenas and
then Scar took the thrown (for a brief period). Scar is very devious and
manipulative.
Simba,
as a cub was very energetic and happy. After his father’s death, he ran away
from his problems and became very depressed. He alienated himself after Scar
made him believe that he killed his father. Scar’s hyenas chased out Simba,
leading everyone to believe that Simba was dead. Nala then seeks out Simba,
Simba is very avoidant and defensive on the subject. Nala encourages Simba to
return to Pride Rock and take back the thrown (that rightfully belongs to him).
Timon and Pumbaa are a meerkat and warthog duo that
both experience jealousy. When Simba was chased out, Timon and Pumbaa found him
and took Simba in as their own, making them a trio. Timon and Pumbaa raised
Simba from a cub. They experience jealousy when Nala comes into the picture,
because they feel like Nala is obtaining all of Simba’s attention. They would
benefit from taking HCOM 214 because they can learn techniques to cope with jealousy
such as talking to Simba about the issue, taking a logical approach, or
thinking of the situation in a positive way and maybe even be happy for Simba.
Simba did a great deal of growing up while away
from Pride Rock. He learned to make
decisions, interact with others and be a leader. All the while, his uncle Scar, was losing
faith in his followers be being selfish and mean to others. He was slowly destroying Pride Rock and the
animals that live there. By the time
Simba returned to Pride Rock, others were ready for a change in
leadership. It was time for Scar to step
down. Simba was the perfect replacement
since he was the rightful heir to the thrown and was wrongly pushed out of
Pride Rock by his sinister Uncle. Simba
had the kindness and morality required to make Pride Rock a happy, healthy
place to live and help it thrive. The
friendships he made with Pumbaa, Timon and Nala maintained and they supported
him in his new role as King of Pride Rock.
