Interpersonal conflict in maleficent
Maleficent was a great movie for this project because it has many great examples of interpersonal
conflict. The movie starts off with a fairy, Maleficent, and a human, Stefan, who eventually becomes
king, loving each other even though there from different kingdoms that hate each other. One day
Stefan has the opportunity to become king, all he has to do is kill Maleficent. When Stefan attempts
to kill Maleficent he finds himself unable to do it because he still has feelings for her. Instead he cuts
off her wings and brings them to his kingdom to convince everyone that he killed Maleficent, as a
result he becomes King of his land. When Maleficent wakes up and notices her wings are gone, she
becomes furious and puts a curse on Aurora, King Stefan’s newborn daughter. Maleficent plan
backfires because as she gets to know Aurora, she falls in love with her as if she were her own
daughter. When Aurora is permanently asleep it is Maleficent's kiss of true love that awakens her.
Maleficent’s anger eventually drives her to kill King Stefan and Aurora becomes the new queen of the
Moors kingdom.
The main conflict in this movie is between Maleficent and King Stefan. They use the aggressive
system towards each other in an ineffective way. They violently fight with each other and as a result
King Stefan dies. If they were to use the collaborative system and work together and communicate
with one another on how they were feeling, then there would not be any consequences. As a result
King Stefan might still be alive, Aurora would not have been cursed, and Maleficent would have
never turned evil and everything would have been great. Overall this movie was a great one for
interpersonal conflict, but if the characters would of handled the conflict in a different way there
would have been a more positive outcome with less consequences.
Could Maleficient have used the corroborative system of working the conflict out with Steffan after being betrayed by him and having her wings clipped for his throne grab? I wonder how that would have looked like?
