                                                                             Fairytale
So, my group and I decided on the movie Maleficent.  We chose this movie, because it has good Interpersonal Conflict within the characters. The movies about a fairy named Maleficent, and she grows up loving a human named Stefan. Everything is good between them until one day, when Stefan steals maleficent wings, to show that he had slain maleficent, and he did it to become king. After his betrayal, Maleficent turns evil, and seeks revenge on Stefan. The humans would always be at war with the fairies, and Stefan took advantage of the situation to become king.
So the main conflict in the movie is Maleficent vs. Stefan. To get revenge, Maleficent puts a spell on Stefan’s newborn daughter, Aurora. So by the age of 16, she will need to have true loves kiss to save her from eternal sleep. Little by little as she grew up, maleficent slowly started liking her. They could have talked it out in an open discussion, but the thing is that these two kingdoms hated each other and with the betrayal of Stefan on maleficent, there was no turning back. It started a vicious cycle that would never be resolved, and would lead to Stefan’s death, even though she didn’t want him dead, she would only antagonize him. Stefan originally still cared about Maleficent, because if he didn’t, he would have killed her instead of just cutting of her wings. I personally would have rather been killed than have wings cut off my back, and I wouldn’t be so men like maleficent. Even though I see where she comes from, I would have never put a curse on an innocent newborn, and I’m sure maleficent regrets                                                                                                                                      doing it too, and she does. At one part in the movie, she tries reversing the curse on Aurora, but she doesn’t succeed.
There’s also another small conflict and that’s in-between the 3 fairy’s that are given the task to take care of aurora. They don’t do a very good job, because they just yell and fight with each other. They could have collaborated and taken turns talking, and then they would have done a better job of taking care of aurora, instead there interrupted by themselves, and an example of this in the movie is when aurora almost falls of a cliff as a baby, due to the lack of supervision of the three fairies. This conflict isn’t as big as the others, but it’s still good to know.
Overall, I think having a movie as an assignment was great, since we had the freedom to pick a movie and partners, and it was a great experience. It was cool seeing how the characters dealt with their conflicts as the movie went on.

  1. I wonder how things would have worked out if Maleficent somehow forgave Stefan for the wing-clipping and tried to make peace with him, instead of cursing his child and setting the two worlds against each other? Once she put the curse in motion, it seemed there was no going back and things spiraled out of control.
